Do Z Fold 7 cases fit the Z Fold 8 Ultra? Yes. Both phones fold to exactly 158.4 × 72.8 × 8.9 mm and weigh 215 g, so a Fold 7 case fits the Fold 8 Ultra; the one thing to check is the camera cut-out, because published dimensions don't describe the camera island. It works the other way too: a Z Fold 8 Ultra case should fit a Z Fold 7. Neither fits the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is a different body.
Up front: we design and sell cases for the Galaxy Z Fold line, so we have a horse in the "do you need a new case for the Z Fold 8 Ultra" race. We're telling you anyway, because the honest answer is that many Z Fold 7 owners don't need a new case, and that's not something a sales page usually says. Everything below is based on Samsung's confirmed specifications. If you'd rather start fresh, our best Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra cases guide ranks the options. Updated 29 September 2026.
Do Z Fold 7 cases fit the Z Fold 8 Ultra?
Yes. This is the cleanest case-fit result of the year. Folded, the Z Fold 8 Ultra and the Z Fold 7 both measure 158.4 × 72.8 × 8.9 mm, and both weigh 215 g. The only dimensional change is the unfolded thickness, from 4.2 mm to 4.1 mm, and a case wraps the closed phone, so that doesn't affect fit.

|---|---|---|---|
| Folded (H × W × D) | 158.4 × 72.8 × 8.9 mm | 158.4 × 72.8 × 8.9 mm | 123.9 × 81.9 × 9.7 mm |
| Weight | 215 g | 215 g | 201 g |

| Does a Z Fold 7 case fit? | Yes | Yes (check the camera cut-out) | No |
The one honest caveat is the camera. The Z Fold 8 Ultra upgrades the ultrawide from 12MP to 50MP (the 200MP main and 10MP 3× telephoto carry over), and Samsung's published dimensions don't describe the camera island's exact shape. That cut-out, and to a lesser extent the button positions, are what can break an otherwise perfect fit. Several of our own listings, including the Axon M2, Axon M1 and Kinetic P1, state outright that their Z Fold 7 version fits the Z Fold 8 Ultra.
Will a Z Fold 8 Ultra case fit the Z Fold 7?
Yes, it should. The fit works in both directions because the folded footprint and weight are identical, so a case made for the Ultra wraps a Z Fold 7 the same way. The caveat simply flips round: the Z Fold 7's camera island carries a 12MP ultrawide where the Ultra has a 50MP one, so fit the case and check that every lens sits clear of the cut-out's edge before you rely on it.
If you're buying new for a Z Fold 7, the simplest route is to pick the Z Fold 7 option. Most of our Z Fold designs are still sold in a dedicated Z Fold 7 version, all in our Galaxy Z Fold 7 collection. Buying for a household with one of each? A case listed for both models is the safe choice.
How to check the camera cut-out on a Z Fold 7 case
It takes a minute, and it's the only check that matters:
- Fit the case on the Z Fold 8 Ultra with the phone closed.
- Look straight down at the camera island. Every lens should sit fully inside the opening, with no edge of the case crossing the glass.
- Set the phone face-up on a flat table. The case's raised camera lip should keep the lenses off the surface.
- Press the side buttons and check the USB-C port is clear.
If anything crowds a lens, don't keep using it: a cut-out that overlaps the glass can scratch it or spoil photos. On a slim case this matters most, because the raised bezel is what protects the lenses on a flat set-down. Our Apex M3 slim MagSafe case has its own Z Fold 8 Ultra option with a 1.3 mm raised lip around the camera, and our tempered camera lens protector has a dedicated Z Fold 8 Ultra cut if you want the glass itself covered.
Why a Z Fold 7 case won't fit the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8
Because the plainly named Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a different phone. The names work the opposite way to what most people assume: the Z Fold 8 Ultra (SM-F976) is the familiar tall book-fold that replaces the Z Fold 7, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the new product, known before launch as the "Z Fold 8 Wide". Folded, it measures 123.9 mm tall × 81.9 mm wide × 9.7 mm. No Z Fold 7 or Z Fold 8 Ultra case will fit it.
So if you want "the Z Fold 7, but newer", the model you want is the Ultra. We compare the two properly in Z Fold 8 vs Z Fold 8 Ultra: which to buy, and the wide model's measurements are in Galaxy Z Fold 8 (wide) case fit & dimensions. Cases made for it are in our Galaxy Z Fold 8 collection.
Do the Z Fold 8 Ultra upgrades change case fit?
No. Apart from the camera island, the Ultra's upgrades are on the inside: 45W wired and 20W wireless charging (up from 25W and 15W), a 5,000 mAh battery, a brighter 3,000-nit panel and a newer chip. None of that touches the case. The Ultra still has no built-in magnets, so a magnetic Z Fold 7 case is still what holds MagSafe-style chargers and mounts; our Z Fold 8 Ultra MagSafe case guide covers the magnetic options.
One thing didn't come back: S Pen support. The Z Fold 7, Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra don't support it, so an S Pen slot in an old case will only hold a slim capacitive stylus (more in our Galaxy Z Fold S Pen guide). Keep your Z Fold 7 case or buy a new one?
If you're moving from a Z Fold 7 to a Z Fold 8 Ultra, try your existing case first and check the camera cut-out. If it lines up, keep using it. If it doesn't, or you want a model-specific fit from day one, buy a case that lists the Z Fold 8 Ultra by name so the phone never spends a day unprotected. On a phone that starts at US$2,099, a well-fitted case is cheap insurance against a hinge or inner-screen repair.
When you shop, check that a listing names the Z Fold 8 Ultra specifically rather than just "Z Fold 8", and be wary of listings that claim one mould fits "Z Fold 8, 7, 6 and 5": the wide Z Fold 8 can't share a mould with the others. Match the case to how you carry the phone: a slim magnetic case like the Apex M3 for careful daily use, the Vanguard H1 heavy-duty case if you drop phones, or a hinge-cover design like the Spineguard P1 if the hinge is your worry. Our full Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra case range is in stock, with each model option made in its own mould.
Z Fold 7 and Z Fold 8 Ultra case fit FAQ
Can I use my Z Fold 7 case on the Z Fold 8 Ultra?
Yes. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Fold 8 Ultra both fold to 158.4 x 72.8 x 8.9 mm and weigh 215 g, so a Z Fold 7 case fits the Ultra. Check the camera cut-out before relying on it, because published dimensions don't describe the camera island and the Ultra's ultrawide camera changed from 12MP to 50MP.
Will a Z Fold 8 Ultra case fit the Z Fold 7?
Yes, it should. The fit works in both directions because the folded footprint and weight are identical. Check that every lens on the Z Fold 7 sits clear of the case's camera cut-out. If you're buying new for a Z Fold 7, choose the Z Fold 7 option, which most Z Fold cases still offer.
Will a Z Fold 7 case fit the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8?
No. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the new wide model and folds to 123.9 x 81.9 x 9.7 mm, which is shorter, wider and thicker than the Z Fold 7. No Z Fold 7 or Z Fold 8 Ultra case fits it, so it needs a case made for that model.
Is the Z Fold 8 Ultra the same phone as the Galaxy Z Fold 8?
No. The Z Fold 8 Ultra is the tall book-fold that replaces the Z Fold 7. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a new, wider phone that folds to 123.9 x 81.9 x 9.7 mm, so it needs its own cases. If you want the Z Fold 7's shape in a newer phone, the Ultra is the one.
Do magnetic Z Fold 7 cases still work on the Z Fold 8 Ultra?
They should. A magnetic Z Fold 7 case fits the Ultra's identical folded body, and the Ultra has no built-in magnets, so the case's ring is what holds MagSafe-style chargers and mounts. Check the camera cut-out, then try it on your charger: if the phone charges reliably, keep using it.
The honest summary
Z Fold 7 cases fit the Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Ultra cases fit the Z Fold 7, because the two phones are identical when folded: 158.4 × 72.8 × 8.9 mm and 215 g. The camera cut-out is the one thing to check. The phone that needs all-new cases is the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8, not the Ultra. Keep your old case if the camera opening lines up, or pick one made for the Ultra by name.
